Engineering Considerations
Ongoing certification processes and specifications continue to challenge AAM developers.
Most companies incorporate a 10-9 safety factor using redundancy on system and component reliability. However, redundancy alone cannot mitigate all risks, such as human error, weather, propulsion loss, bird strikes, and others. Developers must include contingencies for situations where redundancy falls short in unpredictable conditions.
In the realm of vertical take-off and landing vehicles, weight is a critical consideration. Embracing lightweight design principles becomes paramount, ensuring a delicate balance between safety and efficiency.
Meet the Founders
Michael Zimmermann, Aerospace Diplom Ingenieur
Michael has been involved in aerospace-related product development nearly his entire career, much of it with a specific focus on safety systems, including parachutes, structures, aircraft seating, restraint systems and related electronics. He worked for premier companies including Airbus, BAE Systems, Autoflug, and Siemens Automotive
Nick Jaksa, BSEE
Nick has a broad range of experience in product development engineering, manufacturing, testing, and regulatory compliance in automotive and aerospace systems in all major markets since 1985. A great deal of Mr. Jaksa’s focus was on crashworthiness and occupant safety in a combination of product development, testing, and product liability defense positions, working for major manufacturing corporations, including Siemens Automotive, Bosch, and Alliedsignal.
